The city of Gyeongsan is located in the south-eastern part of the Korean peninsula; it has a population of 220,000 and covers 400 square kilometers. Known as the city of education, Gyeongsan boasts 13 colleges and universities.

 
 
 
 

Yeungnam University is poised to become a leading academic center in the new millennium. Its 25,000 students are led by a renowned and dedicated faculty and staff. Its state-of-the-art facilities grace the largest campus in Korea, which houses 14 colleges, two schools and 10 graduate schools.

Gyeongju Historical District has been designated a World Heritage by UNESCO. The city, capital of the Silla Kingdom for almost one thousand years, is one of Korea¡¯s major tourist sites. Guests and student mentors for the 38 th International Chemistry Olympiad will stay at the Hotel Hyundai in the city of Gyeongju, located about an hour¡¯s drive from Yeungnam University. The hotel, which opened in 1992, is located on the shore of Bomun Lake.
