The city of Gyeongsan is located in the south-eastern part of the Korean peninsula; it has a population of 220,000 and covers 400 square kilometers. Known as the city of education, Gyeongsan boasts 13 colleges and universities.

Yeungnam University is poised to become a leading academic center in the new millennium. Its 25,000 students are led by a renowned and dedicated faculty and staff. Its state-of-the-art facilities grace the largest campus in Korea, which houses 14 colleges, two schools and 10 graduate schools.

Gyeongju Historical District has been designated a World Heritage by UNESCO. The city, capital of the Silla Kingdom for almost one thousand years, is one of Korea’s major tourist sites. Guests and student mentors for the 38 th International Chemistry Olympiad will stay at the Hotel Hyundai in the city of Gyeongju, located about an hour’s drive from Yeungnam University. The hotel, which opened in 1992, is located on the shore of Bomun Lake.
