Third Circular of the 38th International Chemistry Olympiad

 Dear Colleagues:

  The opening of the IChO-2006 is now just two weeks away. Our preparation has been going very well and we are looking forward to meeting all of the participants from the 68 countries in Gyeongsan, soon.

  For the sake of your convenience on arrival at Korea, we are asking you to complete the registration as soon as possible, and keep the registration information updated if needed.

  If you are arriving before July 2 or leaving after July 11, please give us your specific flight and accommodation information through 'Message to Organizer' on the online registration form or please send an e-mail to the IChO-2006 office in advance.

IChO-2006 Staffs at CIQ Area
 

   From July 1, there will be staffs of the IChO 2006 Organizing Committee available to assist your entrance into Korea in customs, immigration and quarantine areas of the Incheon International Airport and the Gimhae International Airport. The shuttle bus service to the IChO 2006 venues from Gimhae International Airport will also be available from July 1. There will also be staffs stationed at the Gimpo Airport to help your transfer to Gimhae.
 

If you will fail to find our staffs or need further assistances, please look for the "Information Desk of the IChO-2006" at each airport - Incheon International Airpot, Gimpo Airport and Gimhae International Airport.

       If you have to transfer through Gimpo, please take the following non-stop limousines to Gimpo    domestic airport operated by Korea City Air Terminal and KAL Limousines.

  • From Gimhae International Airport to Gyeongju Hotel Hyundai
    (about 1 and half hours by bus)
    There are two ways to get to your final destination, the Gyeongju Hotel Hyundai: taxi at the cost of approximately $120 (120,000 won) and by limousine at the cost of $9(9,000 won). The limousine will be operated to the Gyeonju bus terminal. You need to take a taxi, from Gyeongju bus terminal to the Hotel, which will cost roughly $12(12,000 won).

Preparation for Practical Tests

According to the IChO Regulation, the competitors must wear laboratory coats and eye protection in the laboratories. Please make sure that every student must bring their own laboratory coats and safey glasses.

The International Steering Committee decide to recommend the students not to bring their mobile phones for security reasons.  Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

Please check the 2nd circular of the IChO-2006 for 'Qualification of Competitors' and 'Fairness of Competition'.

   On July 8, students will go to the "Water Park". We are asking the students to bring their own swimsuits and swimming caps.

 Dear Colleagues:

  The opening of the IChO-2006 is approaching fast. We are looking forward to meeting all of the participants from the 68 countries in Gyeongsan in July.

Country Registration

  We would like to appreciate to all of the countries for completing the country registration. 68 countries will participate in the IChO-2006, including one observing country (Moldova Republic). You can check the participating countries of the IChO-2006 at IChO-2006 official website.

Online Registration

Please keep in mind that the registration deadline is May 30, 2006. Please send us the detailed information of your delegation along with travel schedules through IChO-2006 website from which you can check your own data.

You may have to check the 1st circular of the IChO-2006 for the registration and participation fees.

Visa Application

Unfortunately, the Korean consular service is available for those countries including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cuba, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Moldova Republic.
The participants from those countries need to obtain the entry visas from the Korean Consulate of neighboring countries. Please contact to the
IChO-2006 offcie for more information on visa issuance.

Please check carefully the 1st circular of the IChO-2006 for the information on 'Official Airport',
'Accommodations', 'Early Arrival and Late Departure', 'Registration and Participation Fee' and
'Insurance'.

Meeting the IChO-2006 Staffs at CIQ Area

Qualification of Competitors

According to the IChO Rgulation, the competitors must not be university students. They can only be students of secondary schools, which are not specialized in chemistry and, if they are already graduated before May 1st in 2006, the IChO-2006 Organizing Committee must be informed about the month and the   year of their graduation. Moreover, they must be under the age at July 1, 2006. The competitors must be passport holders of the country they represent or they had to take part in the secondary educational system of this country for more than one academic year.

Fairness of Competition

According to the decision of the International Steering Committee Meeting held in December 8 through 11, 2005, the IChO-2006 Organizing Committee should require all participants including mentors, scientific observers, students and guests to sign the "Pledge of Fairness", which will be available at the registration desk on the venue.

It was also decided by the International Steering Committee to recommend the students not to bring their mobile phones for security reasons.  Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

 Dear Colleagues:

  The opening of the IChO-2006 is less than four months away. The Organizing Committee is trying hard to make the IChO-2006 a memorable event for all participants. We are looking forward to meeting you in Gyeongsan in July.

Country Registration

  We are still waiting for the Country Registration Forms from a few countries. Please check the list of the Participating Countries from the Participation>Countries at the official IChO-2006 website. It would be greatly appreciated if you can help us complete the Country Registration. The Form should be sent to us by fax (+82-2-564-1681) or e-mail (secretary@icho2006.kcsnet.or.kr).

 

Online Registration

  The Online Registration System is now available through Participation>Registration at the official IChO-2006 website. It may well be activated through the "Online Registration" button. The list of ID's and passwords for your delegation are enclosed with this circular. Please read through the Online Registration Guideline which is also found at the website. The registration deadlines are following:

  • Preliminary Registration for personal information: April 30, 2006
  • Final Registration for travel and accommodations: May 30, 2006

 

Registration and Participation Fees

  It is required by the IChO regulation that the delegation should pay the registration fee, in advance. In addition, each scientific observer and/or guest is also required to pay US $1,500, in advance, for meals, accommodations and other expenses. All participants are responsible for their trip to and from the official airport of the IChO-2006, Gimhae International Airport (Airport Code: PUS). The invoice for the registration and/or participation fees can be obtained from the IChO-2006 Office at secretary@icho2006.kcsnet.or.kr.

Visa Application

  Every participant should have a valid passport. You are also required to have a valid visa unless you are from countries, which have the Visa Exemption Agreements with Korea. For the details of application for visas, please consult Korean embassy or consulate in your country in advance. Please let us know as soon as possible if you have any trouble in getting visa issued from Korea. You may find further information at the following websites.

Official Airport

  The official airport for the IChO-2006 will be the Gimhae International Airport in Busan (Airport Code: PUS). The shuttle bus service to/from the IChO-2006 venues will be provided from July 1 through 11 by the IChO-2006 Organizing Committee. You are requested to visit the IChO-2006 official website for useful 'Travel Information'.

 

Accommodations

  Students will stay in the student dormitory of Yeungnam University in Gyeongsan, the competition site. The IChO-2006 Office will assign the rooms. Two students will have to share one room.

  Mentors, along with observers and guests, will stay at the Hotel Hyundai located in the historic town of Gyeongju. Two persons will share a twin room. If you like to use a room by yourself, please let us know through the online registration or separate e-mail to the IChO-2006 Office. In such cases, US$500 for the entire official period of the IChO-2006 will be additionally charged.

 

Early Arrival & Late Departure

  Those who plan to arrive earlier than July 2 and to leave later than July 11, may stay at the Hotel Hyundai in Gyeongju at the special discounted rate of US$106 with breakfast coupons. Please let us know through the online registration or a separate e-mail to the IChO-2006 office.

 

Insurance

  The IChO-2006 Organizing Committee will provide the proper accident insurances against any accidents related to the organized activities for all the participants. Nevertheless, the IChO regulation requires all members of a delegation to have personal medical insurance for the journey to/from Korea as well as the stay in Korea. An evidence of such medical insurance must be submitted to the IChO-2006 Office upon your arrival at the venue.
